Quick answers
How much does it cost to add motorization?
Motorization is a $149 upgrade on any compatible shade — that includes the quiet DC motor, rechargeable lithium battery pack, and a wireless remote. Smart home connectivity (Wi-Fi) is included on all our motorized shades; no separate hub needed for Alexa, Google Home, or Apple HomeKit integration.
Do motorized shades need to be wired or installed by an electrician?
No. Our motorized shades are battery-powered with rechargeable lithium battery packs that last 6-12 months on a single charge. You install them the same way as any regular shade — no electrician, no holes in the wall, no exposed wires. When the battery runs low, you remove it, charge it via USB, and reinsert it in about 60 seconds.
Which smart home systems do they work with?
All our motorized shades work natively with Amazon Alexa, Google Home, Apple HomeKit, and the new Matter standard. You can control shades by voice, set schedules, build scenes (like 'Good morning' or 'Movie time'), and integrate with other smart devices. The shades also work with the SmartBlindsPro app for direct control without a smart home hub.

How long does the battery last?
Most customers get 6-12 months per charge depending on how often the shades move. Shades on automated schedules (open at sunrise, close at sunset) use about 60 cycles per month, which typically lasts 8-10 months. Heavy manual use can drop this to 4-6 months. The remote and app both display battery level so you know when to recharge.
Are motorized shades quiet?
Yes. Our motors operate at under 44 decibels — quieter than a normal conversation. You'll hear the gentle hum during operation, but it won't disturb sleep or interrupt conversations. The motor is mounted in the shade headrail with sound-dampening housing.
Can I motorize the shades I already have?
Most retrofit motorization kits are designed for new shades, not existing ones. We sell motorization as an integrated upgrade when you order custom shades — this ensures the motor, battery, and shade are matched for size, weight, and fit. If you want to keep your existing shades, consider replacement when they reach end-of-life (7-10 years) and add motorization then.
Which shade types can be motorized?
We offer motorization on cellular shades, roller shades, zebra (dual-roller) shades, sheer shades, and woven wood shades. Roman shades and vertical blinds are not currently motorization-compatible. If you're not sure, configure your shade and motorization will appear as an upgrade option when available.
What's the warranty on motorized shades?
The shade itself carries our standard 10-year warranty against manufacturing defects. The motor and battery carry a separate 5-year warranty covering defects and premature wear. The lithium battery is rated for 500 full charge cycles, which translates to roughly 7-10 years of normal use before noticeable capacity loss.
